Bandon, Coos County Oregon Resources Coproration Chromite Strip Mine
In March of 2011, mining will begin in the remote hills of Bandon, in Coos County, Oregon. Oregon Resources Corporation will be mining for heavy metals in the sandy soil. Some townspeople see the industry as a boost to the local economy while others see it as a threat to the environment.

Julie and Jack Jones, residents of Bandon, stand in front of a mine site that will soon be deforested. They don't think Oregon Resources Corporation has taken enough safety precautions when considering the environment.
Chromite Sand. Chromite is used in manufacturing industries.
Barbra Schwartz, long-time Coos Bay resident, fears environmental damage.

Hector Lopez of Milwaukie, Returns From Detention Center Christmas Eve
These are a few of my pictures from Hector Lopez' arrival at PDX.
Lopez was brought to the United States by his parents when he was 6-weeks-old, and until August when he was deported, did not know of his illegal status. After being deported to Mexico, Lopez was targeted by locals who didn't like his American ways. He hardly speaks Spanish. Lopez came back to the United States in October 2010 to plea reasonable fear. He was held in a detention center in Arizona until late December, when he was allowed to fly home for Christmas. He is still under the watchful eye of ICE, and has many more court dates to attend before he knows what his future will be.

Jesus Tecocoatzi

This portrait is a part of a project I am working on for Ethos Magazine (http://ethosmagonline.com/) on an open pit chrimite mine in the hills of Coos Bay, Oregon. Tecocoatzi regularly hunts for deer near where the mine will be build. He says he carries the shotgun for deer, and the pistol for protection from bear and cougar.
