Charles C. Lynch Protest
Protesters gather in front of the Federal Courthouse in Los Angeles, Calif., Monday afternoon, Oct. 6, 2008 to protest the persecution of former medical marijuana dispensary owner Charles C. Lynch. Although the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes is legal under California State law, in Federal Court, California laws do not apply. Lynch has been convicted under five counts including selling to minors, cultivating more than 100 plants, operating a business location, conspiracy to distribute marijuana, and distribution of marijuana. He is awaiting his court appointment to appeal the charges on Nov. 17, 2008. If his request is denied, Lynch will be sentenced in federal court on Nov. 24, 2008 and may face up to 100 years in prison. (Photo by Rachelle Hacmac/Brooks Institute ©2008)
